NIA Reminds Ghanaians: First Ghana Card Issuance at District Offices Remains Free
The National Identification Authority (NIA) has issued a public notice reminding Ghanaians that the first issuance of the Ghana Card at its 276 Operational District Offices nationwide is free of charge.
However, the NIA has introduced approved fees for first-time card issuance at its Premium Centres, following approval by the Parliament of Ghana in 2023. This step aims to streamline the card acquisition process and maintain transparency in service charges.
The Ghana Card serves as a vital identification document, enabling citizens to access essential government services and other crucial activities.
Approved Fees at Premium Centres:
- First-time card issuance: GH₵310.00
- Card replacement: GH₵125.00
- Record updates with card replacement: GH₵420.00
- Nationality updates: GH₵70.00
- Record updates only: Free at district offices but GH₵310.00 at Premium Centres
The NIA encourages all citizens to take advantage of the free first issuance at district offices and ensure they understand the fees associated with additional services at Premium Centres.
