The Ghana Chess Association (GCA) on Saturday, 24th January, 2026 held its Congress at the Media Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium, bringing together about 70 members to discuss crucial matters affecting the Association.
The Congress saw the admission of 35 new members, a testament to the growth of the game nationwide
This was further affirmed by the Secretary’s report which showed a significant increase in chess activity nationwide with twice as many events happening in 2025 as compared to the previous year
The Congress, which was productive and transparent, yielded several key outcomes.
The Auditor’s report was presented, discussed, and approved by the members. Three motions were submitted and thoroughly discussed, but none were adopted.
A key highlight of the Congress was the formation of an Election Committee responsible for overseeing the organization’s upcoming elections, slated for February 21, 2026.
The committee comprises:
– Ambrose Amexo (Chairman)
– Maud Benson (Member)
– Daniel Smart Frimpong (Member)
– Dzidzor Dotse (Member)
– Dimple Singh (Member)
Additionally, several petitions submitted by some members of the Association was addressed by the Chairman of the meeting under Any Other Business (AOB). The petitioners were given the option to withdraw their petition submitted to various sporting bodies or face sanctions, emphasizing the importance of maintaining unity within the organization.
In his closing remarks, the Chairman reiterated the need for members to work together, stating that “we are one family” and urging everyone to let love and unity lead the way forward.
The GCA Congress demonstrated a strong commitment to the Association’s growth and development. The leadership is confident that with the decisions made, GCA is poised for success in its future endeavors.
