Ghana’s Minister of Energy, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, has confirmed that Ghana’s pursuit of nuclear power as part of its energy mix is solely for peaceful and civil applications.

He expressed Ghana’s appreciation for hosting the US-Africa Nuclear Energy Summit, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to clean, reliable, and sustainable energy.

Dr. Prempeh participated in a panel discussion on “Nuclear Power as a Catalyst for Economic Development” at the summit, where he conveyed Ghana’s readiness for a robust Nuclear Partnership Programme aimed at ensuring long-term energy security for its citizens.

The summit, themed “Unlocking Africa’s Potential Through Nuclear Energy,” marks a historic occasion, being the first-ever Pan-African gathering organized by the United States with a focus on the future of nuclear power in Africa.
