The Ghana Deaf Football Federation recently hosted a thrilling Gala tournament, attracting 16 deaf football clubs from across the country. The 2-Day tournament, held from September 12-13, 2025, at the Elwak Sports Stadium, was part of the federation’s efforts to select players for the national team and prepare them for the African Games next year in Cameroon.

The tournament was a success, with teams from all over Ghana participating, including Ashaiman DFC, Shining DFC, Warriors DFC, New Juaben DFC, and among others, with New Juaben DFC crowned winners of the event after beating Shining DFC on penalty shootout.

The General Secretary of the Ghana Deaf Football Federation, Patrick Johnson in an interview with this portal expressed his gratitude to the director General of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Yaw Amofo Ankrah for his massive support, the players, technical experts and teams that participated in the tournament, noting that the event provided a platform for players to showcase their talents and compete at a high level.

“Although there’s more room for improvement, we will say that at least what we’ve seen today is better than the previous,” he said. “So we are very happy with their performance.” He said.

Mr. Johnson noted that the players were tired due to the demanding schedule, and the federation has decided to reduce the match duration from 20 minutes to 15 minutes starting next year.

The Ghana Deaf Football Federation is seeking support from corporate organizations and the government to help develop deaf football in the country.

“We need support from corporate organizations and from government as well,” the General Secretary said. “Although government has been doing well, Oliver Twist always asks for more, and we still need more support from all over so that they can able to showcase their talent.” He added.

The federation is committed to providing opportunities for deaf football players to develop their skills and compete at the highest level. With the right support, the Ghana Deaf Football Federation is confident that it can produce talented players who will make the country proud on the international stage.

Winners of the tournament took home trophy, medals and cash prizes.
