Interior Minister Reaffirms Zero Tolerance for Illegal Foreign Operators
The Minister for Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has disclosed that 107 foreign nationals involved in illegal mining (galamsey) and fraudulent activities have been repatriated as part of the government’s crackdown on illegal operations.
Speaking at the Police Regional Commanders’ Conference on March 21, 2025, the Minister warned that all future foreign offenders would be deported without compromise. He emphasized that foreigners arrested in Ghana’s forests or illegal mining sites should be immediately reported to immigration authorities for repatriation.
Mubarak also directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to trace the tax details of equipment found at illegal mining sites, ensuring that owners who rent out bulldozers and other machinery to galamsey operators are held accountable.
The Minister further issued a stern warning to police commanders who fail to implement these measures, stating that such officers would be reassigned if they neglect their duty to enforce deportations. The government remains firm in its commitment to ending illegal mining and fraudulent activities that harm Ghana’s economy and environment.
