DIHOC to Anchor New Defence Industrial Complex in Ghana
The Ministry of Defence, led by Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, announced plans on July 7, 2025, to establish a Defence Industrial Complex (DIC) anchored by the Defence Industries Holding Company Limited (DIHOC). The initiative aims to boost defence manufacturing, create jobs, and enhance national security, as reported by 3News.
During the inauguration of DIHOC’s new governing board, chaired by Deputy Minister Ernest Brogya Genfi, Boamah outlined the DIC’s role in driving industrial growth. The complex will focus on producing defence equipment, fostering innovation, and reducing reliance on imports, aligning with President Mahama’s vision for self-reliance.
The DIC, first envisioned by the late President John Evans Atta Mills, is expected to generate thousands of jobs and support Ghana’s 24-hour economy agenda. Boamah emphasized collaboration with ministries and global partners, like India, for technology and training, following recent talks with PM Modi.

The board, including figures like Lt. Gen. William Agyapong, was tasked with ensuring high governance standards. The DIC will also strengthen cybersecurity and maritime security, key areas for Ghana’s defence strategy. This move positions Ghana as a potential defence manufacturing hub in West Africa.
Public sentiment on social media supports the DIC, seeing it as a step toward economic and security growth. The government is urged to act swiftly to operationalise DIHOC, with hopes that the complex will drive innovation and bolster Ghana’s industrial landscape.
