Accra to Welcome Africa’s Solar Energy Leaders in September

Ghana will host the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Regional Committee for Africa meeting in Accra from September 2-4, 2025, following a host agreement signed with the ISA, as announced on July 5, 2025. The high-level summit will bring together member countries to advance solar energy programs across Africa.

The event will focus on coordinating solar initiatives, sharing technical expertise, and securing financial and policy support to boost Africa’s solar transition. Ghana’s Energy Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor, hailed the summit as a chance to drive innovation and investment, building on Ghana’s Renewable Energy Authority and Green Energy Investment Fund.

As a founding ISA member, Ghana is committed to renewable energy, with projects like West Africa’s largest floating solar farm and solar rooftop installations for public institutions. The summit aligns with efforts to address Ghana’s energy debt and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, supporting the Paris Agreement goals.

The ISA, a global body, aims to combat climate change through solar solutions. Ghana’s role as host is expected to strengthen its leadership in Africa’s renewable energy sector, with plans for solar-powered agribusiness and e-mobility showcased at the event, drawing inspiration from India’s solar success.

The summit follows Ghana’s push for clean energy, including Ecobank’s $31 million solar financing initiative and Indonesia’s interest in solar plants for underserved areas. With air pollution and energy challenges persisting, the event could catalyze sustainable development across the continent.
