The Ghana Military Academy (GMA) organized a two-day medical outreach for the residents of Adaklu Waya and Adaklu Abuadi on October 14 and 15, 2023, in the Adaklu district of the Volta Region. This outreach was part of “EXERCISE FINAL FLING,” which marked the conclusion of the bush exercise for Regular Career Course Intake 62, Short Service Commission, and Special Duties Intake 60 cadets at GMA. The primary objective of this initiative was to provide essential healthcare services to the local community, raise awareness about public healthcare, and foster civilian-military cooperation.
The medical outreach addressed the immediate healthcare needs of the locals, offering health education, free consultations, and medications. Various health tests, including Body Mass Index (BMI), Random Diagnostic Test (RDT) for Malaria, Blood Pressure (BP), Hepatitis B and C, were conducted. Additionally, there was public education on breast cancer, and women had the opportunity to undergo examinations.
Colonel A. Caan, the Chief Instructor of the Army at GMA, delivered opening remarks, emphasizing that the outreach aimed to express gratitude and appreciation to the Adaklu community for their cooperation during the bush exercises in the Adaklu area.
A representative of the chief of Adaklu Waya community, Togbe Amafu, who also benefited from the medical outreach, expressed profound gratitude to GMA for this kind gesture. He highlighted that such a medical outreach was a unique experience for the community. Many locals rarely visit medical centers, and the GMA-organized outreach provided them with accessible and free healthcare at their doorsteps, garnering deep appreciation from the entire community.
A total of 548 locals received medical assistance during this outreach, made possible through generous contributions from pharmaceutical companies such as Unicom, Unichem, Zultron, Tobinco, and Ernest Chemist.
