GHS Intensifies Surveillance as Mpox Cases Surge Nationwide
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 26 new cases of Mpox, increasing the country’s total to 45. As of May 31, two patients are hospitalized, and no fatalities have been reported.
Health authorities have activated emergency response protocols across all 16 regions, including contact tracing and enhanced surveillance, to contain the outbreak.
GHS assures the public of its capacity to manage the situation, urging citizens to practice good hygiene, avoid close contact with symptomatic individuals, and report suspected cases promptly.
Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, is a viral disease transmitted through close contact with infected individuals or contaminated materials. Symptoms include fever, rash, swollen lymph nodes, and muscle aches.
The GHS continues to monitor the situation closely and encourages public cooperation to prevent further spread of the virus.
