Ghana Music Xperience (GMX), a new music streaming platform exclusively for Ghanaian music, was officially launched in Accra on October 30, 2024. The launch event, held at the De Icon Centre, highlighted GMX’s mission to support Ghanaian artists, foster cultural preservation, and drive economic growth within Ghana’s creative sector. Developed by Omni Strategies with support from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, GMX aims to place Ghanaian music at the forefront of digital media.
Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, who had previously announced this government-backed collaboration, emphasized that GMX will play a crucial role in Ghana’s digitalization journey. “GMX is more than just a music streaming device; it’s an embodiment of our commitment to preserving culture and fostering growth,” he stated, encouraging industry support.
Ato Aduenu Tandoh, General Manager of Omni Strategies, extended an invitation to stakeholders and investors to help make GMX a thriving platform for Ghanaian artists. “Our ‘Ghana First’ approach reflects a commitment to creating opportunities for artists across the nation,” he noted.
Key attendees included Akwasi Agyeman, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority; Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Andrew Egyapa Mercer; Musicians Union of Ghana President Bessa Simons; and GMX Marketing Manager Akissi Ackah. The platform is set to become operational in January 2025, positioning itself as a premier hub for Ghanaian music on the global stage.
