In a decisive move to combat the illicit drug trade, Ghana’s Narcotics Control Commission has begun the destruction of a massive haul of seized narcotics, totaling 151,889.54 kg.

The drugs, set to be disposed of today, include various types of narcotics, with cannabis leading the volume at more than 46,000 kg. Other drugs in the collection for destruction include 37 kg of heroin, 10 kg of speedball—a potent mix of cocaine and heroin—9.6 kg of cocaine, 3 kg of ecstasy, and an astounding 105,700 kg of codeine.

The commission’s action underscores its commitment to eradicating illegal drugs from circulation, aiming to curb the social and health impacts of narcotics in the country. This large-scale destruction effort marks a significant step in Ghana’s ongoing fight against drug trafficking and substance abuse.
