The Ghana Police Service has introduced a toll-free number, 0800-311-311, to enhance public collaboration in ensuring peace and security during the upcoming December elections. This initiative aims to create a participatory approach to maintaining law and order while preventing security breaches during the electoral process.
Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo-Dampare, announced the toll-free service during a stakeholder meeting with the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG). He emphasized the role of public cooperation, urging citizens to report suspicious activities or share information to assist the police in preventing potential threats.
“The toll-free number is a vital tool in our efforts to ensure a secure and peaceful environment for the elections. We urge the public to take advantage of this service and report any suspicious activities or provide information that could help us prevent any potential security threats,” Dr. Akufo-Dampare stated.
Accessible 24/7, the service allows callers to remain anonymous, with the assurance that all information will be treated confidentially.
The initiative received praise from UTAG’s General Secretary, Professor Eliasu Mumuni, who commended the Ghana Police Service’s commitment to fostering peace. Highlighting Ghana’s reputation as a democratic leader in Africa, he noted that public engagement is crucial for maintaining stability and ensuring successful elections.
Professor Mumuni emphasized UTAG’s role in shaping democratic values through education and pledged the association’s support for peace efforts before, during, and after the elections.
