Families Urged to Claim Bodies Before February 28 Deadline
The Ghana Police Hospital has announced plans to conduct a mass burial for approximately 200 unclaimed bodies to decongest its mortuary. The burial exercise is expected to take place within the first quarter of 2025.
The hospital has urged families of missing persons to visit its pathology department before February 28, 2025, to help find and claim deceased relatives. The hospital emphasized that all unclaimed bodies after this deadline will be buried collectively.
This move comes as the hospital grapples with overcrowded storage facilities, which has hindered its ability to accommodate new cases. Authorities believe the planned burial will create space and improve storage conditions.
The situation is not unique to the Ghana Police Hospital. Several other health facilities across the country are facing similar challenges:
- In the Western Region, the Bogoso Police Hospital is preparing a burial for seven unclaimed bodies that have been in storage for 20 months.
- The Tema General Hospital is also planning a mass burial to address morgue congestion.
The Ghana Police Hospital has called on the public to spread the information and assist in identifying unclaimed bodies, allowing families to provide a dignified farewell to their loved ones.
