Dr. Nii Amu Darko, president of the African Reform Movement (ARM), has unveiled his manifesto, outlining a comprehensive vision for Ghana’s transformation. Built on “Overaching Principles of AFREMOCRACY,” the manifesto proposes a new framework of government, economic federalism, and poverty alleviation.
Dr. Darko’s AFREMOCRACY framework seeks to establish a more efficient and accountable governance structure. This includes a national executive consisting of a President, Prime Minister, and a maximum of 25 ministers, with no deputy ministers.
The 25 ministers will be regrouped into five super ministries of related sector ministries. Additionally, Dr. Darko advocates for a 100-member national Parliament selected on a proportional representation or “Ky3mp3” or “She3bosh3bo” basis and a Supreme Court with nine justices.
Dr. Darko emphasizes that the toxic unitary state has failed Ghana and that economic federalism is the solution.
“Under this system, 8.10% of the population will form a state, with each state having a 32-member Parliament, a Premier, and six commissioners or state ministers for core service areas, including health, education, law and order, power and water, agriculture and industries, and housing, infrastructure, and transport.” He stated.
Dr. Darko’s manifesto also outlines the Five Rs, a plan to be implemented within 100 days in office: Relief to the people, Repair of budget, Retrieve stolen state money and properties, Reset the economy, and Reforms to sustain the new economy.
The manifesto addresses economic transformation, aiming to double Ghana’s GDP within five years and quadruple it within eight years. Strategies include education and tourism development, alternative medicine, and export-driven growth.
To combat poverty and unemployment, Dr. Darko proposes the Poverty Alleviation and Youth Employment (PAYE) initiative, which involves addressing individual, family, and national poverty levels and creating jobs through sustainable economic growth.
With a focus on legislation over local development, Dr. Darko’s ARM movement promises a lean, independent, and efficient legislature, ensuring representation reflects the population fairly and democracy aligns with demography. This manifesto offers a compelling vision for Ghana’s future.
