Foreign Minister Ablakwa Announces Faster Visa Processing
Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced on May 21, 2025, that Ghana has reduced visa processing time from four to six weeks to five working days. The directive, effective immediately, aims to enhance tourism and investment, aligning with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to position Ghana as open for business.
Ablakwa shared the update on his official Facebook page, emphasizing the Ministry’s commitment to expedited consular services. He confirmed that Ghana’s diplomatic missions worldwide have implemented measures to achieve this significant reduction in processing time.
The minister clarified that while the new policy ensures a decision within five working days, it does not guarantee automatic visa approval. Applicants will be informed of their eligibility within this timeframe, maintaining rigorous assessment standards.
This reform is expected to strengthen Ghana’s competitiveness in global travel and business by streamlining visa procedures, making the country more attractive to visitors and investors seeking the “Black Star experience,” as described by Ablakwa.
