The senior men and women’s teams of Ghana Beach Volleyball has stepped up preparations ahead of the upcoming African senior continental Championship in Morocco, scheduled for June 23-30, 2025. The continental beach volleyball championship serves as qualifiers for the world championship to be hosted later this year.
In an exclusive interview, the President of the Ghana Volleyball Federation, Mr. George Tettey, expressed his optimism about the team’s chances. “So far so good,” he said. “I think this is the best I have seen in so many years. I have no doubt that they will be able to take their slots in Morocco for the World Championship.”
Mr. Tettey attributed the team’s success to their rigorous training sessions, which have been ongoing at the Laboma beach in Accra. He revealed that the team is preparing to send two pairs each for the men’s and women’s divisions.
“We will take the first position,” he asserted. The men’s team, led by Paul and Hamid, recently won a tournament in Rwanda, comprising professionals from across Africa. The women’s team, featuring Rashaka and Benedicta, is also showing great promise.
The Ghana Volleyball Federation is gunning for the top spot in Morocco, where 88 female pairs from 22 countries and 114 male pairs from 27 countries will compete. Mr. Tettey emphasized that this is a historic opportunity for Ghana, as the team has never reached this stage before. “We hope to get into the finals,” he said.
The team’s success, however, hinges on securing the necessary support to participate in the tournament in Rwanda, which is the final qualification stage for the World Cup. Mr. Tettey appealed for support, stating that the team is eager to make Ghana proud. With their current form, the team is confident about their chances of success. As the team continues its training, Mr. Tettey’s confidence in their abilities is palpable.
“It’s a double general affair, so we will raise two teams each for the men and women,” he said. “And the ones here, it is even difficult for us to choose the best out of them now.” He stressed.
Kelvin Carboo, deputy team captain of the senior men’s team, envisioned continental glory with qualifications to the world championship, indicating their readiness for the event in Morocco.
According to Juliana Otchere, a member of the female team, they are well-prepared and optimistic about winning a medal for Ghana. She mentioned that suitable measures and training conditions have been outlined to ensure their victory.
