Former NSA Deputy Director Gifty Oware Mensah Returns to Ghana For Ghost Names Scandal

Gifty Oware Mensah, the former Deputy Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), has returned to Ghana as investigations into a ghost names payroll scandal intensify.

Oware Mensah, who had been in the United States since the elections, landed in Accra on Tuesday afternoon, where she was met by family members at the airport. Her arrival comes amid reports that the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) had been seeking her arrest in connection with the case.

NSA Ghost Names Scandal

The scandal revolves around allegations that thousands of ghost names were fraudulently added to the NSA payroll, leading to huge financial losses to the state. Investigators suspect that some NSA officials may have facilitated the scheme, diverting funds meant for legitimate national service personnel.

Oware Mensah’s return follows the recent detention of Kwaku Ohene Gyan, also known as Osonoba, the Former Deputy Director of Operations at the NSA, who is currently under investigation by the NIB.

What’s Next?

While Oware Mensah’s exact role in the scandal remains unclear, her return suggests that she may face questioning or legal action as the probe continues. Security agencies are expected to intensify investigations in the coming days to uncover the full extent of the fraud and hold those responsible accountable.

The case has sparked concerns over corruption and oversight within the NSA, prompting calls for stricter payroll monitoring and reforms to prevent similar fraudulent activities in the future.
