Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries Limited, has strongly cautioned his employees against participating in the upcoming Organized Labour strike, scheduled for October 10, 2024. In an interview with Oyerepa FM, Jumah warned that any GIHOC staff member who joins the strike would be dismissed immediately, stating that the strike is a national issue unrelated to the company.
Jumah stressed that GIHOC employees should not be swayed by the planned protest and emphasized that participation would violate company regulations. He reiterated that GIHOC operates under its own rules and that the strike’s objectives do not directly concern the company.
The planned strike by Organized Labour stems from ongoing concerns about illegal mining (galamsey) and the government’s lack of action to address the issue. Despite several discussions between labour unions and the government, no agreement has been reached, leading to calls for a nationwide protest.
Jumah’s firm stance reflects his belief that GIHOC staff should remain focused on their duties, even as national issues like illegal mining provoke widespread unrest.
