Members of various National federations has taken a bold step in rejecting the inaccurate yearly account statements and the unconstitutional appointment of the auditor by the Executive Board of the Ghana Olympic Committee.
This decision taken by congress last weekend was made in accordance with the GOC’s constitution, which stipulates that the auditor is appointed by the Congress, not the Executive Board.
According to Article 5, Clause 5. i, of the GOC’s constitution, the Executive Board’s appointment of the auditor is a clear violation of the constitutional provisions. The Congress members emphasized that the auditor’s appointment is their prerogative, and any attempt by the Executive Board to usurp this power is unconstitutional.
The rejection of the inaccurate account statements and the unconstitutional auditor appointment sends a strong message that the GOC congress will not tolerate any actions that undermine its authority or violate the constitution. This decision is expected to have far-reaching implications for the governance and management of the GOC.
The GOC Congress has scheduled an extraordinary meeting via Zoom to address the issue and make necessary appointments. During this meeting, the Congress will appoint a new auditor and approve the statement of account and budget for 2025.
The Ghana Olympic Committee led by Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah is responsible for promoting and developing sports in Ghana, and its actions have a significant impact on the country’s sporting landscape. The GOC’s commitment to transparency and accountability is essential for maintaining the trust and confidence of its stakeholders, including athletes, sponsors, and the general public.
