The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has announced a new initiative encouraging Ghanaians and friends of Ghana to wear Fugu (Batakari) every Wednesday. The move aims to promote Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and stimulate the creative economy.
In a statement signed by Sector Minister Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the government expressed its commitment to preserving and celebrating Ghana’s cultural identity. Wearing Fugu is expected to deepen national cultural awareness, affirm Ghana’s identity, and showcase the country’s heritage globally.
The initiative is anticipated to have significant social and economic benefits. It is expected to empower local weavers, designers, artisans, and traders, creating business, employment, and commercial opportunities nationwide.
