Government Clears Salary Debts for Black Stars Coaches
The Government of Ghana, through the Ministry for Sports and Recreation, has disbursed $904,561.31 to clear outstanding salary arrears owed to current and former Black Stars coaches, as announced on May 30, 2025. The payments address dues unpaid since 2022, aiming to restore trust and professionalism in the football sector.
Former Head Coach C.K. Akonnor received $120,000, while Chris Hughton was paid $68,904.11 for services in January 2024, including his signing-on fee. Former assistant coaches George Boateng and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani received $20,833.34 and $12,500, respectively, for their tenures.
Additional payments to former coaches include $40,000 to David Duncan for February 2023 and $30,000 to Maxwell Konadu for November 2022. The settlements cover months, and in some cases years, of delayed payments, addressing long-standing grievances within the national team’s coaching staff.
Current Black Stars Head Coach Otto Addo received $420,000 in two tranches ($180,000 and $240,000) for arrears from October 2024 to March 2025. Assistants Joseph Laumann and John Paintsil were paid $75,000 and $64,864.86, respectively, while Goalkeepers’ Coach Abdul Fatawu Dauda and Team Coordinator Francis Bugri Tampuli received $19,459.44 and $33,000.

Minister Kofi Iddie Adams authorized the payments to demonstrate the government’s commitment to supporting the Black Stars and enhancing the management of Ghana’s football ecosystem, ensuring financial obligations to coaching staff are met promptly.
