In December 2024, Ghana will inaugurate the GHS 200 million Digital Youth Hub, a significant project under the Ghana CARES programme. Announced by Dr. Collins Yeboah-Afari at the Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) graduation, this state-of-the-art facility aims to foster digital innovation among young entrepreneurs. The hub will provide training, mentorship, and resources in artificial intelligence, digital marketing, and fintech, contributing to job creation and the growth of local tech companies.
Additionally, the Ghana Rural Telephony and Digital Inclusion Project has connected 1,460 out of 2,116 targeted communities, benefiting over 3.5 million Ghanaians. The National Roaming System rollout further bridges the digital divide by ensuring seamless network access in rural areas.
GCTU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa, highlighted the university’s role in advancing Ghana’s digitalisation agenda, despite infrastructure challenges. The government plans to support the university with a new 3,000-bed hostel to accommodate the increasing student population.
The Digital Youth Hub and GCTU’s progress underscore Ghana’s commitment to building an inclusive digital economy and preparing its youth for a technology-driven future.
