The Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Mr. Kwame Kuma Asiamah, has praised the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the police force for their efforts in enhancing road safety and overall security in the country. Mr. Asiamah commended the significant improvements in security witnessed under the leadership of Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
During a ceremony at the police headquarters in Accra, Mr. Asiamah expressed the GPRTU’s support for the police’s work and their commitment to assisting in any way possible. He also acknowledged the IGP for the transformation of the police service, making it more attractive to the public, and urged him to continue his dedication to the nation.
In response, IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare refuted claims that the police are opposed to demonstrations, emphasizing the police’s commitment to safeguarding the right to peaceful assembly.
This recognition of the police’s role in ensuring road safety and overall security reflects ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service, led by the IGP, to engage with various stakeholders and the public to enhance understanding of police functions and foster cooperation.
The police’s engagement with the GPRTU and other stakeholders is part of their broader initiative to maintain security, protect citizens, and uphold the right to peaceful assembly.
