Transport Union Mandates Compliance with New Fare Cuts
The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has directed all transport stations and branches to implement a 15% fare reduction effective May 25, 2025, warning of sanctions for non-compliance. The directive follows a decline in fuel prices, prompting the fare adjustment.
General Secretary Godfred Abulbire, speaking on Channel One Newsroom on May 24, 2025, noted that some operators in the Ashanti Region delayed compliance due to late communication. He confirmed that measures are now in place to ensure adherence across all terminals.
Abulbire stated that a press release was issued, emphasizing that non-compliant stations face penalties starting May 26. A key sanction includes preventing drivers from loading passengers, a measure intended to enforce the new pricing structure.
While some operators have adopted the reduced fares, others have resisted, citing high operational costs. The GPRTU remains committed to ensuring full compliance to benefit passengers amid the fuel price drop.
