The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has announced a nationwide inspection of vehicles starting October 1, 2024, aimed at identifying and impounding uncustomed vehicles.
The Customs Division of the GRA will conduct unannounced checks across the country. In a move to encourage compliance, the GRA has also introduced a two-month amnesty, effective from August 1 to September 30, 2024, waiving penalties for users who regularize their vehicles’ documentation.
This initiative allows vehicle owners who have illegally imported cars to legalize their status without facing penalties. The Commissioner-General of the GRA emphasized the importance of this exercise in ensuring that all vehicles on Ghana’s roads are properly documented and that the country collects the necessary customs duties.
Vehicle owners are urged to take advantage of this amnesty period to avoid potential confiscation of their vehicles. The GRA’s action reflects its commitment to enforcing customs regulations and maintaining order in Ghana’s automotive market.
