The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and the organizers of the 2025 Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC) came together to celebrate the legacy of Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president, in a cocktail night held at the Labadi Beach Hotel on Sunday, 21st September, 2025.

The event, themed “Kente and Calabash,” was attended by distinguished guests, including ambassadors, queen mothers, and kings, and marked the beginning of the FESTAC Africa Festival.

The CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Maame Efua Houadjeto, welcomed the guests and highlighted the significance of FESTAC in celebrating Ghana’s cultural heritage and unity. She emphasized the importance of honoring Kwame Nkrumah’s legacy and promoting Ghana as a hub of culture and pan-Africanism. “Your presence adds richness to this event, and we trust you’ll find Ghana a home that resonates with your spirit,” she said.

The chairman of the FESTAC Africa Festival, Mr. Abioye Oyinka, reiterated the need for full collaboration between stakeholders to ensure the successful hosting of the event. He noted that the reorganizing of the festival is a testament to the objectives and missions aligned with the African continent.

The brief but colorful event featured the display of various cultural history and traditional communication mediums, showcasing Ghana’s rich cultural heritage. The FESTAC Africa Festival is scheduled to take place from September 22nd to 27th at the International Conference Center.

The festival promises to be an exciting celebration of Ghana’s culture, arts, and heritage, with participants from all walks of life and across the African continent expected to attend.
