Ghanaian content creator Clementina Nkrumah, popularly known as Afua Nash, recently announced plans for a record-breaking eating marathon set to begin on November 11, 2024. Nash intended to set the record for the longest eating marathon, planning a non-stop, four-day, seven-hour, and 20-minute eating session. However, Guinness World Records (GWR) quickly clarified that it no longer recognizes records for extended eating marathons.

In response to a social media post promoting Afua Nash’s attempt, GWR explained that it has updated its guidelines for consumption records. “We no longer monitor records for eating over a long period of time,” GWR stated. Instead, they now focus on records based on the rate of consumption, typically limiting attempts to a maximum of three minutes, depending on the food type. This shift reflects GWR’s emphasis on achievable, short-duration eating feats over extended endurance attempts.

While GWR previously acknowledged longer eating marathon records, the organization’s evolving criteria aim to encourage safe and measurable eating challenges.
