Transition from subscription-based to free-to-air model on the West African Platform Services platform.
HD PLUS Ghana, Ghana’s premium high-definition satellite broadcast service provider, has announced its switch from a subscription-based platform to a free-to-air (“FTA”) model, effective June 13, 2024. The company will transition to the West African Platform Services (“WAPS”) platform, also known as the MultiTV platform in Ghana.
Details:
- The transition will be managed by WAPS, an SES affiliate in Ghana responsible for local ground services.
- The new business model will offer HD channels for free as part of the wider FTA channels available on the WAPS platform.
Key Dates:
- From April 16, 2024, customers in Ghana will no longer be able to purchase HD+ subscription packages or activate new HD+ devices.
- Subscribers with active subscription packages will continue to access the service until June 13, 2024.
- HD+ subscribers with active subscriptions beyond June 13, 2024, will be contacted regarding compensation starting from April 30, 2024, via the HD+ call center.
- From May 30, 2024, users of HD+ Decoders in Ghana must update their device with new software available over the air to access the new FTA HD channel lineup.
- SES HD PLUS Ghana will support this software update process until June 20, 2024.
- The My HD PLUS TV operator and mobile Apps will be decommissioned on May 30, 2024.
