Subheading: Ministry of Youth and Sports CFO assures payment ahead of Olympic Games qualifier

The Chief Financial Officer of the Ministry of Youth and Sports has assured that the Black Queens will receive all their outstanding bonuses today, February 22. This comes after public outrage over the delay in payment of bonuses for the women’s national team, particularly for qualifying for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

The Black Queens are owed around $180,000 in bonuses for six games, and the CFO has assured the team that all unpaid bonuses will be paid by 1 pm on Thursday. This payment is expected to motivate the team ahead of their first leg tie against the Coppe Queens of Zambia in the qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games.

In related news, Gifty Oware-Mensah, Chairperson for the Black Queens Management Committee and an Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), suggested that the Black Stars are treated better than the Black Queens because they are seen as the foremost product of the GFA.

The Black Queens are set to face Zambia in the first leg of the 2024 Olympic Games third-round qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, February 23, 2024. Nora Hauptle’s side has had a remarkable run, winning 10 out of 11 matches and scoring 34 goals. They have also qualified for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Despite their success, the Black Queens remain unpaid, with outstanding bonuses totaling $7,500 from qualification matches played last year.
