Highlife Legends Mourn Daddy Lumba

Ghanaian highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, known as Daddy Lumba, died on July 26, 2025, at 60, after a brief illness at Bank Hospital, Accra, prompting heartfelt tributes from fellow musicians. Amakye Dede, on Instagram, called Lumba a “true legend” and family, saying, “Wo nkɔ yie, Onua. Yɛbɛkae wo daa,”.

Kojo Antwi, visiting Lumba’s family, described him as an “African Music Legend” on social media, consoling his wife and noting his profound impact. Nana Acheampong, Lumba’s former Lumba Brothers partner, expressed shock on Facebook, stating, “Menua Kojo Fosu, you have done what the creator brought you to do,”.

Lumba’s 34 albums, including hits like “Aben Wo Ha,” “Makra Mo,” and “Yentie Obiaa,” shaped Ghanaian highlife. His mentorship influenced artists like Ofori Amponsah, per GBC Ghana Online. Fans and artists, including Sarkodie and Sista Afia, mourned on X, with @charllycolegh calling him “the Greatest,” reflecting his cultural legacy.

President Mahama and Dr. Bawumia also paid tributes, with Mahama noting Lumba’s “enduring legacy” on Facebook. The Fosu family, via lawyer Fati Ali Yallah, requested privacy, with funeral details pending. Lumba’s death, a “huge blow” to Ghana, leaves a void in highlife music.
