EOCO’s Operation Rescues Victims from Forced Labour and Cybercrime in Oyarifa

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has made significant strides against human trafficking with a recent operation in Oyarifa, Accra. In collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and National Security, EOCO’s efforts led to the arrest of 35 individuals involved in this heinous crime.

According to Abdulai Bashiru Dapilah, the Acting CEO of EOCO, the perpetrators lured foreign nationals into Ghana with false promises of lucrative jobs. The victims, having abandoned their livelihoods in neighbouring countries, were instead held captive and coerced into criminal activities such as cybercrime.

This operation resulted in the rescue of 219 victims who had been subjected to forced labour and other inhumane conditions. The victims, who hailed from various parts of the region, were manipulated and confined at the Oyarifa estates, showing the extent of the deception and exploitation they endured.

The successful bust highlights the ongoing efforts by EOCO and its partners to combat organised crime and human trafficking. The agency assures the public that it remains committed to safeguarding human rights and will continue to crack down on such criminal networks.

EOCO’s decisive action not only brings justice to the victims but also serves as a strong warning to those engaged in human trafficking and related crimes. The agency urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help dismantle these unlawful operations.
