The Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, has called for calm among political parties as Ghana prepares for its 2024 general elections. Speaking at a Police and Political Parties engagement in Accra, he assured stakeholders of the police’s commitment to maintaining peace and security throughout the process.

“This is an election, not war,” IGP Dampare said, urging political parties to focus on the future and avoid escalating tensions. “After the election, there is life. War will only phase out and leave us forgotten.”

The IGP praised political parties for their cooperation during internal elections, acknowledging their trust in the police to maintain order. He assured stakeholders that anyone attempting to disrupt the elections would face the full force of the law.

“So far, with only a few isolated incidents, the campaign period has been peaceful. We will continue to ensure law, order, and security prevail,” he added.

As Ghana approaches its December 7th elections, the IGP emphasized the nation’s ability to manage its affairs peacefully. “Let us show the world that Ghana is capable of holding peaceful elections,” he concluded.
