One dead, five injured as police and military restore calm after renewed clashes
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno is leading a high-powered team of operations, investigation, and intelligence officers to Bawku in the Upper East Region to assess the security situation following violent clashes.
The unrest began after a confrontation between youth and police, resulting in the death of Fuseini Iddrisu and injuries to five others, including a police officer and an immigration officer. While joint police-military operations restored calm on April 9, tensions flared again on April 10 when agitated youth allegedly burned down the residence of MP Mahama Ayariga in Wiidi.
The attack reportedly started with stone-throwing before escalating into arson. The violence was allegedly triggered by the police’s alleged killing of a young man.

In a statement, the Police Service said the IGP’s team will commiserate with the bereaved family, visit the injured, and support officers who lost property. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to working with the military and local leaders to maintain peace.
