Blood-Stained Fufu Pestle Links Suspect to Crime

The Ghana Police Service’s CID, probing the July 9, 2025, murder of Ghana Immigration Service officer Stephen King Amoah, recovered a blood-stained fufu pestle wrapped in polythene near suspect Bright Aweh’s residence. Forensic analysis confirmed human blood on the pestle, bloodstains in Aweh’s home and car, and a burnt carpet near GBC Satellite, Accra.

Amoah, 38, went missing on July 3 after leaving his home in Ashongman Estate to meet Aweh, who sent WhatsApp images of GH¢500,000 to settle a GH¢200,000 debt. Aweh’s conflicting statements and failure to explain the money’s source led to his arrest on July 6, initially for kidnapping, now upgraded to murder.

CCTV footage shows Amoah arriving at Aweh’s residence on July 3 via motorbike, with three others entering on two motorbikes. Aweh was seen holding the polythene-wrapped pestle, and his vehicle moved in and out. Amoah’s charred, stab-wound-riddled body was found July 9 near Comet Estate, identified by relatives.

The CID, led by COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, found evidence of attempted cleanup at Aweh’s home, including freshly painted walls and a new rug. A July 24 search warrant uncovered further bloodstains. Aweh, on remand, faces court on August 8, as police hunt for accomplices in the gruesome killing.

DNA samples from Amoah’s mother and son aid forensic profiling. The case, sparking public outrage, aligns with the CID’s broader crackdown, which has included 43 stolen vehicle recoveries. The investigation continues to ensure justice for Amoah, known as Otumfuo Nana.
