Mr Edwin Provencal Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company BOST

The Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company (BOST), Mr. Edwin Provencal, has provided clarity to recent claims regarding the company’s purchase of iPhones for its staff, describing it as a standardized measure aimed at improving efficiency and productivity.

The controversy arose after it was revealed that BOST had spent over GHS 28 million on the purchase of some iPhones, leading to accusations of wasteful spending and mismanagement.

Speaking in an interview on Ghana Rising on ABC News GH, Mr. Provencal defended the decision, stating that the purchase was necessary to improve the efficiency and productivity of its staff.

“The actual cost of the iPhones is GHS 28 million. The reason for the purchase of the devices was an agreement to standardize our working tools in order to enhance operational efficiency and productivity as some of our staff faced great difficulty in working with their own personal gadgets,” he said.

He further added that it was to equip the team to stay in touch with the management information and business intelligence systems of the company for efficient decision-making. He emphasized that the company had followed all necessary procurement procedures and had obtained approval from the appropriate authorities.

Mr. Provencal also intimated that BOST remains committed to supporting the government’s initiatives to boost economic development and strengthen Ghana’s position in the global market.
