The Salpholda Hockey League continued over the weekend, treating fans to high-intensity matchups across the Men’s divisions, from Masters to Men’s A and B—at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium.
The weekend opened with Army securing their first win of the season, narrowly edging Arkmen 4-3 in a contest. League sponsors Salpholda SC also claimed their second victory of the campaign with a 1-0 win over Citizens International.
Defending champions Multi Stix showed no signs of slowing down, delivering a commanding 3-0 performance against Financiers to maintain their position at the top of the table.
In the development category, University of Ghana Ladies put up a solid performance to defeat Ark Girls 1-0.
But the headline matches of the day—GRA vs Reformers and Police vs Exchequers stole the spotlight.
GRA completely outclassed Reformers, handing them a crushing 5-0 defeat, their third loss of the season. The “Taxmen” continued their perfect start, racking up their third win in dominant style.
In the day’s final clash, Exchequers shocked Police with a hard-fought 2-1 win, ending Police’s unbeaten run and reaffirming their place as serious contenders in the league.
Among the notable guests was Gideon Hammond, Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority, who shared his impressions in a post-match interview; “It’s an exciting game. You see, hockey is one of those sports that deserves more attention. If we invest, it can even show up in the GDP,” he said. “If the media gives lesser-known sports the visibility they deserve, it will amplify everything they’re doing. Young people sitting at home will leave their corners and come watch.

“I wanted my team Police to win but didn’t go as planned, we will re-strategize and come back stronger he added.
With the rising and growing calls for increased investment and coverage, the Salpholda Hockey League is proving it’s more than just a game it’s a growing movement.
