For the first time in nine years, the ITTF Level 3 Coaching Course is set to return to Africa, with Tunisia’s capital, Tunis, hosting the event from February 13 to 20. This edition will feature a specific high-performance component.

According to the ITTF, the course targets eligible coaches from Africa and, for the first time, will include a High-Performance element with an HP Expert. The last time this course was held in Africa was in 2016.

To be eligible, candidates must possess a valid ITTF Level 2 coaching certificate and only applications endorsed by the candidates’ Member Associations will be accepted. A maximum of 20 participants from African Member Associations will be able to attend, with selection based on an online application process on a first-come, first-served basis.

Additionally, each Member Association can nominate four candidates (two male and two female), while the host Member Association has a quota of six candidates (three male and three female).

Professor Germain Karou, Executive Vice President (Technical) of ITTF Africa, emphasized the importance of updating coaches’ knowledge to positively impact players in their respective countries.

“We hope to continue with this kind of initiative as our target is to ensure we improve the knowledge of those in charge of our sport. Coaches are essential, and that is why the new ITTF Africa board will work hard to bring in a lot of ideas into the sport through regular training and other initiatives,” Karou said.

Wahid Enitan Oshodi, President of ITTF Africa, expressed his support for the initiative, emphasizing its importance for developing coaches and players across the continent.

“We are excited to have the Level 3 Coaching Course returning to Africa after nine years. This is a significant development for us, as our coaches must update their knowledge to be on par with their counterparts worldwide. This course will help us produce more top coaches to handle our players across the continent. It is another opportunity for Member Associations to equip their coaches with training from top ITTF experts,” Oshodi said.
