James Marfo, the talented table tennis player from the KidsForKids Foundation, has been crowned the champion of the 2025 Ga Homowo table tennis tournament. He defeated Prince Aklie 3-0 (11-7, 11-8, 11-5) in the final, showcasing his exceptional skills and tenacity on the table.

The national open tournament, held at the Hathramani sports hall last Saturday, attracted over 100 players from across the country and was organized by the Greater Accra Table Tennis Association as part of the annual Ga Homowo festival celebrations.

Marfo’s victory was a testament to his hard work and dedication to the sport. Prior to the final, he had a thrilling match against Francis Antwi, winning 3-2 in a closely contested encounter that was described as the best play of the event.

In the final, Marfo’s rally prowess and strategic play gave him a decisive edge over Aklie, allowing him to claim the title with ease. As a 2025 WTT Contender men’s double bronze medalist, Marfo demonstrated the skills and experience that have made him a formidable force in Ghanaian table tennis.

The championship has played a significant role in Marfo’s career, providing him with valuable experience and exposure.

“The championship has positively played a big role in my career,” Marfo said in an interview after the event.

He expressed gratitude to his management team, led by Michael Danquah, for their unwavering support and opportunities.

“I am really grateful to my manager, Michael Legend Danquah, my coach, Annang White, and my family, fans for all the support and love. I couldn’t have made it this far without their support,” Marfo said, echoing sentiments he shared after his victory in the GTTA Power Series 2 Championship.

Marfo’s win at the Ga Homowo tournament is a testament to his growing dominance in Ghanaian table tennis. With his sights set on future competitions, Marfo is poised to continue making a name for himself in the sport.

His coach, Annang White, has outlined suitable training measures to keep Marfo in shape and focused, ensuring that he remains a top contender in upcoming tournaments.

As Marfo took home the undisclosed cash prize, medal, and trophy, he reflected on the significance of his win. “I am pushing for more laurels and achievements. I will keep training and make sure I win all major competitions,” he said.
