In a surprising revelation on Twitter, popular Ghanaian personality John Dumelo has expressed his desire to embark on an extraordinary road trip adventure from Ghana all the way down to South Africa. The actor-turned-politician shared his intentions by stating, “I want to drive from Ghana to South Africa.”
This announcement comes hot on the heels of the recent feat achieved by the Wanderlust Ghana group. Comprising 13 daring individuals from Ghana, the group set out on an epic journey, covering a staggering distance of 10,000 kilometers from Accra to London.
The expedition commenced on Sunday, July 23, 2023, with the adventurers charting their course through picturesque locales like Aburi, Nsawam, Kumasi, Sunyani, and Dormaa. Crossing borders, they ventured into Cote d’Ivoire via Golokrom, marking the commencement of their transcontinental odyssey.
Originally setting off as a united unit of 12, the group was equipped with an impressive fleet of five Ghanaian-registered vehicles: a Mercedes Benz G-Wagon, two Toyota Land Cruisers (V8), a Lexus RX 350, and a Ford F150 Raptor. As the journey unfolded, circumstances led to a gradual reduction in the number of participants. Nonetheless, the intrepid expedition pushed forward, powered by determination and historical significance.
Clocking in an impressive average of 800 to 900 kilometers each day, the travelers wound their way through five African nations: Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Senegal, Mauritania, and Morocco. The crowning moment of their African leg was reaching the Mediterranean, where a ferry transported them from Morocco to Algeciras in Spain. From there, they took on the roads of Europe, making their way to Barcelona via Valencia.
The culmination of their journey thus far was marked by their arrival in Monaco on Friday, August 4, 2023. With each passing mile, the Wanderlust Ghana group not only covered an extraordinary expanse of land but also etched their names in the annals of remarkable explorations.
Now, with John Dumelo aiming to replicate this audacious expedition by driving from Ghana to South Africa, it seems the spirit of adventure is alive and well, inspiring others to take on the open road and create their own stories of extraordinary human achievement.
