Mr. Ebenezer Frimpong, the sports Director at Ghana Revenue Authority has urged the female hockey team to stay optimistic throughout the ongoing league season. He stressed the need for the ladies to staying sharp and taking chances. Mr. Frimpong made the disclosure during the weekend fixture at the Theodosia hockey stadium in Accra.

According to him, “there’s no room for sleeping. As much as we were the better side, we missed too many chances up front. We’ll review individual performances and fix the shortfalls quickly. This is a long season, and consistency will be key.”

“Despite being outplayed, Police can hold their heads high, particularly their goalkeepers, who put in top-tier performances that likely prevented a wider scoreline. Their resilience under pressure earned praise even from the opposing camp; “I think the Police goalkeepers were both understanding on the day and both deserve Player of the Match,” Eddie Frimpong noted

The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Women’s Hockey Team maintained their perfect start to the 2025 Salpholda Hockey League with a 2-0 win over Police Ladies on Saturday, June 7th. In what was their third fixture of the season, both teams came into the clash with two wins apiece.

The opening quarter saw GRA pushing hard, earning two penalty corners in quick succession, but both opportunities went begging. Their attempts were either smothered by a tight Police defense or went out of play. It was in the second quarter that the breakthrough finally came. A defensive blunder by Police handed GRA another penalty corner, and this time, Gifty Addae delivered a sharp push that found the stick of Mavis Berkoe, who swept it in for the opener.

GRA dominated possession from there on, keeping Police pinned in their own half with a high full court press. Police resorted to a half court press and long clearances, struggling to progress beyond their 23-meter line, especially in the third and fourth quarters. Despite the pressure, the Police goalkeepers were exceptional throughout, making a series of vital saves that kept their side in the contest.

The second goal arrived in the 54th minute. Once again, a penalty corner. This time, it was Enerstina Coffie who converted, executed it and gave GRA a comfortable 2-0 cushion, and sealed the game.

In a post match interview, GRA midfielder Gertrude Inkoom shared her thoughts on the team’s performance; “I told you in the pre match interview that we don’t brag. Let’s play to do the talking. I guess we had our three points, and that was what we all prayed for. A win was our focus, and that is what we’ve gotten. But our win didn’t come that cheap, Police is not a walkover team. Police is a good team. They really gave us something to work for.”

GRA now sit comfortably at the top of the Women’s league table, unbeaten in three games.
