Agyapong Stresses Solidarity for NPP’s Future
Former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, addressed journalists at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) forecourt in Accra, urging the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to prioritize unity to secure victory in the 2028 general elections. Agyapong, a former NPP presidential aspirant, emphasized that internal divisions and factional disputes must be resolved to strengthen the party’s position against the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Agyapong expressed disappointment over recent incidents highlighting internal conflicts, specifically referencing a viral video where Alex Kwaku Tetteh, a member of his campaign team, claimed responsibility for providing information leading to the arrest of NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi. Agyapong criticized such actions as counterproductive, stating that airing grievances or settling personal scores weakens the party’s cohesion.

Comparing the NPP’s approach to that of the NDC, Agyapong noted the opposition’s solidarity in supporting their Minority Leader, Ato Forson, during court appearances, with NDC MPs visibly united in Parliament. He contrasted this with the NPP’s lack of similar unity, warning that failure to emulate this discipline could prolong the party’s time in opposition. “If we don’t learn from the NDC, we will remain in opposition for a long time,” he cautioned.
Agyapong’s call for unity aligns with his broader vision for the NPP, as he prepares to contest the party’s flagbearer position for the 2028 elections. He stressed that solidarity and peace are essential for mobilizing party members and delegates, urging all factions to work toward a common goal. His remarks underscore the need for the NPP to reorganize and present a united front to challenge the NDC effectively.
