Minority Leader Condemns Raid on Former Finance Minister’s Residence


The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has strongly condemned the security raid on the private residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, February 13, 2025, Ayariga confirmed the operation involved military and police personnel and was led by Richard Jakpa, a known operative linked to National Security.

“So, Speaker, it is true that the private residence of the former Minister of Finance was entered into by operatives of the military and the police, led by somebody who we believe works at the National Security Coordinator’s office. His name is Richard Jakpa,” Ayariga stated.

Incident Sparks Concerns

The incident reportedly occurred at Ofori-Atta’s Cantonments residence in Accra on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, while he was out of the country for medical treatment.

Eyewitnesses claim the group of about 12 individuals included:

  • Five in military uniforms
  • One in a police uniform
  • Six in plain clothes

Apology & Investigation

Ayariga described the raid as “regrettable and unfortunate” and personally apologized to Ofori-Atta.

“We have received assurances from the Office of the National Security Coordinator that it was not intended for such an incident to occur. I personally extend my apologies to the former Minister of Finance,” he added.

Ken Ofori-Atta Declared Wanted

Meanwhile, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has declared Ken Ofori-Atta a fugitive, citing his involvement in causing financial loss to the state.

At a press briefing on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng accused the former minister of mismanaging funds related to the National Cathedral project and Ghana Revenue Authority’s Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Ltd (SML) deal.

Ofori-Atta’s current whereabouts remain unknown as investigations continue.
