Former Finance Minister Addresses Allegations and Home Raid
Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has expressed deep frustration over the ongoing criminal investigation initiated by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). In an open letter dated February 26, 2025, Ofori-Atta described his dismay at the OSP’s actions, including a raid on his home and being labeled a “fugitive from justice.”
Ofori-Atta explained that he had been abroad for medical treatment since January 24, 2025, when the OSP invited him for a meeting scheduled for February 10, 2025. He noted that his lawyers had informed the OSP of his unavailability and offered to provide information on his behalf, but the OSP insisted on his personal appearance.
Despite notifying the OSP of his medical leave, armed National Security operatives raided his home on February 11, 2025. The Special Prosecutor later accused Ofori-Atta of staging the raid and launched an international campaign branding him a fugitive.
Ofori-Atta revealed that the Majority Leader has since apologized in Parliament for the raid, and the OSP has rescinded the fugitive declaration. The OSP has now proposed a meeting in June, but Ofori-Atta hopes for an earlier resolution through his legal team, especially as the number of cases under investigation has reportedly increased to five.
