OSP Declares Ken Ofori-Atta a Fugitive Over Corruption Probes

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has issued a wanted notice for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, citing his failure to appear for questioning in multiple corruption-related investigations.

The notice, made public on February 17, 2025, states that Ofori-Atta is being investigated for his alleged involvement in several financial irregularities, including:

  • Strategic Mobilization Limited-GRA contract
  • Termination of the ECG-BXC contract
  • National Cathedral payments
  • Ambulance procurement contract
  • Utilisation of the Tax Refund Account

According to the OSP, Ofori-Atta may be residing in the United States or the United Kingdom, and they are urging the public to provide any information about his whereabouts.

Mixed Reactions and Legal Responses

The announcement has sparked divided opinions. Supporters of the move see it as a bold step toward accountability, ensuring that public officials are held responsible for their actions.

However, critics—including members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP)—argue that the decision is politically motivated and an attempt to tarnish the reputation of a key figure from the previous administration.

Ofori-Atta’s legal team has condemned the OSP’s actions, calling it a witch hunt. They claim he is currently seeking medical treatment abroad and had formally communicated this to the OSP in response to an earlier invitation.

Despite this, security operatives have reportedly stormed his residence in Accra, allegedly attempting to apprehend him.

Meanwhile, the OSP has opened multiple hotlines and emails for the public to provide any leads on Ofori-Atta’s location.
