KNUST Investigates Death of Final-Year Biological Sciences Student
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has assured its students and the university community of their safety and security following the tragic death of a fourth-year Biological Sciences student, Joana Deladem Yabani.
According to the university, Joana’s lifeless body was discovered near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Centre around 5:00 a.m. on February 27, 2025. The KNUST Security Services were alerted and promptly responded to the scene.
Following confirmation of her death, the university transported the body to the University Health Services for further medical examination.
University Launches Investigation
In an official statement released on Thursday, February 27, 2025, KNUST management confirmed that a comprehensive investigation is underway. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID), KNUST Internal Security, and University Health Services are working together to determine the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
“We will provide further updates as the investigation unfolds,” the university stated.

KNUST has officially notified Joana’s family and extended deep condolences to them.
The university is urging students to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and respect the privacy of the bereaved family during this difficult time.
