Maxwell Kofi Jumah Faces Probe for Financial Misconduct
National Security operatives arrested Maxwell Kofi Jumah, former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, at his Kumasi home on June 29, 2025. The arrest, confirmed on June 30, is part of a probe into alleged financial wrongdoing during his time at the state-owned company, including unauthorized property sales and vehicle purchases.
Jumah faces accusations of selling GIHOC properties in Tema worth over $700,000 without board approval and buying a Genesis G90 luxury car for $100,000, later auctioned to himself for GH¢40,000. A May 15, 2025, raid at his home recovered one state vehicle, but Jumah was absent then, delaying his arrest.
The investigation, sparked by a tip-off, also looks into inflated staff numbers that strained GIHOC’s finances. Jumah was taken to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and awaits further orders from Accra. Some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members call the arrest politically motivated, but authorities insist it’s about accountability.
This follows warnings from Deputy Director Mustapha Gbande on June 6, 2025, about Jumah’s alleged corruption, including claims he threatened GIHOC workers against protests. The probe aims to uncover the full extent of financial losses and recover state assets.
Jumah’s arrest has stirred debate, with calls for a fair process. As investigations continue, the case highlights Ghana’s push to tackle mismanagement in state institutions, with the public awaiting updates on whether charges will be filed.
