Prompt and Clear Updates Essential for Renal Patients

The Renal Patients Association announced the resumption of outpatient services at the Korle-Bu Renal Unit after a one-week suspension. This break left many patients without necessary treatment. On Wednesday, May 7, Kojo Baffour Ahenkorah, President of the association, relayed his dissatisfaction with the centre’s communication efforts during the disruption.

Ahenkorah pointed out that the hospital failed to issue any formal notices about the suspension or the restart of services, which led to uncertainty among patients. He confirmed reports from patients that the centre is now completely operational.

He mentioned that patients were called to attend their sessions starting on Tuesday. This indicated that the hospital had possibly replenished its previously short supplies. On Wednesday morning, the next batch of patients was also summoned for treatment.

Ahenkorah stated the lack of official updates forced patients to rely on rumours. He suggested that a straightforward announcement from the hospital would have been reassuring. Nevertheless, he confirmed the unit’s full functionality based on feedback from patients who received treatment earlier that morning.
