Police Arrest Two More Suspects in Nsoatreman vs Kotoko Violence


The Ghana Police Service has arrested two additional suspects linked to the violent clashes that disrupted the football match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC on February 2, 2025, in Nsoatre, Bono Region.

The suspects, Isaac Ofosu and Yeboah Augustine, are currently in custody, assisting with ongoing investigations. Their arrests bring the total number of suspects detained in connection with the incident to five.

The violence, which resulted in the fatal stabbing of Francis Yaw Frimpong, also known as Nana Pooley, has raised concerns about security at football matches in Ghana. The police have vowed to identify and arrest all individuals involved to ensure justice is served.

Previous Arrests and Legal Actions

Earlier, three individuals were arrested, including Nsoatreman FC owner and former Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah. He and Joseph Kyeremeh were later granted bail and are expected to appear before the Sunyani District Magistrate Court B on February 17, 2025.

A third suspect, Agyemang Duah Owusu, remains in police custody.

In response to the violence, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has suspended all Matchday 20 fixtures as authorities work to restore order and protect the integrity of the sport.
