GWL’s Emergency Repairs Disrupt Water in Northeastern Accra

Ghana Water Limited (GWL) announced an emergency shutdown of its Kpong Treatment Plant on July 4, 2025, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for urgent repairs. The outage will cut water supply to northeastern Accra areas, including Dodowa, Oyarifa, Madina, Adenta, Ashaley Botwe, East Legon, Abokobi, Haatso, Agbogba, Ashongman, and nearby communities.

The repairs aim to strengthen the reliability of GWL’s supply network, ensuring long-term service improvements. The company urged residents to store enough water ahead of the 12-hour disruption, emphasizing the critical need for the work to maintain steady water delivery.

GWL’s statement, issued on July 3, 2025, apologized for the inconvenience and assured the public that water supply will resume immediately after repairs are completed. The company is working to minimize delays and restore services promptly by 6:00 p.m.

This shutdown follows GWL’s recent challenges, including a power cut by ECG over a GH¢999.6 million debt. Residents in affected areas are bracing for the outage, with some expressing frustration over frequent service interruptions, while others support the repairs for better water access.

GWL is asking for public cooperation and patience during the repairs. The company promised to keep residents updated and is committed to completing the work quickly to reduce the impact on households and businesses in the affected areas.
