Five Nabbed in Kumasi for Stealing Cars, Cash

Ashanti Regional Police arrested five members of a car theft syndicate in Kumasi on June 19, 2025, after months of tracking. The group, including four Nigerians and one Ghanaian, followed victims from banks, broke into their parked cars, and stole cash and valuables using Toyota Highlanders with fake plates.

The suspects, named Russell Ekenze, Francis Friday, Linus Agwazie, Emmanuel Onyedikachi, and Kwame Appiah, were caught through a joint operation involving the Police Intelligence Directorate and surveillance systems. Police recovered tools used for the thefts and two vehicles linked to the crimes, as announced on June 23.

During interrogations, the suspects confessed to multiple thefts across Kumasi, targeting people withdrawing money from banks. The police operation, supported by the Kukuom Police and Nkawie Divisional Command, followed reports of rising car break-ins in the region. Efforts are ongoing to find other gang members.

Deputy Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo urged the public to stay alert and report suspicious activities. The arrests build on earlier successes, like the April 2025 capture of another car theft leader, Nana Anderson, in Kumasi. The police are working to return stolen items and ensure safety.

This bust is a win for Kumasi residents, who faced growing theft. The police vowed to keep up their efforts to break up criminal groups and protect the community, with more updates expected as the investigation continues.
